Social Program

The symposium offers an attractive social program (Day and Night Tour) both for the symposium participants and the accompanying persons. A reception and dinner with cultural show will be organized.

Temple of Emerald Buddha and The Grand Palace (Day Tour: Tour A)

The Wat Phra Kaew ( Temple of the Emerald Buddha, full official name Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram) is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple ( Wat ) in Thailand . It is located in the historic center of Bangkok , within the grounds of the Grand Palace .

The construction of the temple started when King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1782. Unlike other temples it does not contain living quarters for monks; rather, it has only the highly decorated holy buildings, statues, and pagodas.

For just about 150 years, Bangkok 's Grand Palace was not only the home of the King and his court, but also the entire administrative seat of government. Within the crenellated walls were the country's war ministry, state departments, and even the mint. Thai Kings stopped living in the palace full time around the turn of the twentieth century, but the complex remains the seat of power and spiritual heart of the Thai kingdom. Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Central Court of the Grand Palace are opened daily. This social program is free for registered accompanying persons.
